We now have an exciting opportunity for a Business Engagement Manager in our Productivity & Skills Directorate and are looking for a person with proven business experience to leverage private sector commitment to the WMCA’s skills agenda.
The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is a strategic authority working with partners to deliver a stronger West Midlands, with a focus on skills, innovation, transport, economic development and regeneration. Individual Councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships will still deliver services and retain their identity but on the big decisions we will have the resources to work together.
This is an exciting time for the West Midlands - the Commonwealth Games will be here in 2022, the arrival of HS2 will help make us a world class business location and a new £350m housing deal aims to deliver 215,000 new homes by 2031.

The Productivity and Skills Team
The teams is focused on inclusive growth - more local jobs and more local people benefitting from jobs. To do this we work closely with the regions Universities, colleges and training providers and also employers so that the training matches their skills needs.
About the role
As our business engagement manager you will lead the development and implementation of the Productivity & Skills team’s Business Engagement Strategy, ensuring that employers play a key role in the development and delivery of the Regional Skills Plan. You will work with employers to understand and support their talent management strategies, leverage private sector investment and secure commitment from businesses to collaborating with WMCA to address the region’s skills challenges.
To succeed in the role…
You will need proven experience of leading business engagement activities, excellent knowledge of issues impacting small and large businesses and an ability to bring together the business community to drive change, shared ownership and practical delivery. You will have deep functional knowledge of stakeholder liaison with a diverse range of stakeholders and excellent written and verbal communication skills, to ensure credibility and confidence.
