The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is comprised of 18 local authorities and four Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) working together to move powers from Whitehall to the West Midlands and our locally elected politicians, who know this region best. Individual councils will still deliver services and retain their identity but on the big decisions we will have the resources to work together.
Transport for West Midlands, the transport arm of the WMCA is a rapidly growing authority and fast emerging as a standard setter in the industry – in October 2017 becoming only the second ever to win the ‘City-Region Transport Authority of the Year’ Award twice in a row. We are re-shaping our Policy, Strategy and Innovation Department to respond to new challenges and the largest Combined Authority Mayoral portfolio outside London. We want new talent to join our already excellent team.
The department has recently established the WMCA’s first strategic transport plan; a 2026 Transport Delivery Plan, an ambitious delivery programme of globally unique Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) testbed facilities and projects, and a UK first-of-kind Mobility as a Service pilot service.
We need a progressive thinking dynamic individual to join us as we use evidence to shape our £7.3bn transport programme and unlock tomorrow’s technologies and insights, in collaboration with many of the UK’s leading industrial and academic partners. We are looking for:
An innovative thinker with a pragmatic approach; this key senior role will direct the delivery of a secured multi-million pound programme of CAV and ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) projects and will shape future collaborations and projects.
