We now have an exciting opportunity for an Employment Support Manager in our Productivity & Skills Directorate and are looking for a person with proven knowledge and experience of designing, commissioning and delivering employment support programmes.

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is a strategic authority working with partners to deliver a stronger West Midlands, with a focus on skills, innovation, transport, economic development and regeneration. Individual Councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships will still deliver services and retain their identity but on the big decisions we will have the resources to work together.

The Productivity and Skills Team

The teams is focused on inclusive growth - more local jobs and more local people benefitting from jobs. To do this we work closely with the regions Universities, colleges and training providers and also employers so that the training matches their skills needs.

About the role

You will provide project leadership for the effective delivery of a £4.7 million Employment Support Pilot delivered in communities across the West Midlands. The programme specifically targets areas of high unemployment and low pay and provides support to local people to secure employment and/or increase their income.

In addition, you will play a key role in developing and delivering WMCA’s approach to employment support, ensuring integration with WMCA productivity and skills workstreams and broader corporate priorities including transport and mental health.

To succeed in the role

You will need proven experience of working in the welfare to work, skills or education sector, an understanding of the wider employment, skills and training landscape and a detailed understanding of how the complexities of commissioning, contract management and payment models impact on the effectiveness of employment support provision
